Overlooking the Carlton Gardens and Royal Exhibition Building, our European restaurant offers one of Melbourne’s most scenic views while enjoying fine European cuisine and friendly, elegant and comfortable atmosphere.
Epocha is regarded as one of Carlton, Melbourne’s favourite and finest restaurants where locals and visitors can enjoy a nourishing and wholesome European dining experience. We’re also renown for our wide range of European wines and a full bar! In fact, many refer to our wine list as the “Birth of my taste for Wine”, according to TripAdvisor.
As a European-inspired restaurant, we do not only provide Greek, English, Italian, Spanish or French cuisines (think charcuterie and serious cheeses), but a hybrid of different cuisines that bring Europe directly to your taste buds in Melbourne.

The Epocha European cuisine includes an a la carte dining and a choice of two tasting menus for dinner from Tuesdays to Thursdays, and for lunch from Thursdays to Saturdays. On each Friday and Saturday night, we offer our tasting menus only. Sunday Lunch at our restaurant consists of our famous, Melbourne-renown ‘Sunday Roast Lunch’ – a 3-course set menu. On Monday nights, we have a special 4-course set menu focused on a handmade European pasta cuisine served from a giant wheel of cheese!

Meet Our Owners & Chef
EPOCHA RESTAURANT HEAD CHEF
Gerard Curto Rodríguez was born in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, a small village on the east coast of Catalonia; an autonomous community in north-eastern Spain and known internationally for its fine dining restaurants.
Classically trained at the University of Girona in Barcelona, Gerard gained invaluable creative and technical skills early in his career while completing an internship at the 3-star Michelin restaurant, El Bulli in Roses, Catalonia. El Bulli has been judged by Restaurant Magazine to be Number One on its Top 50 list of the world’s best restaurants a record five times—in 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Gerard then worked at Restaurante Hofmann, the prestigious one Michelin star restaurant, where resident students of the Hoffman Cooking School are prepared to become chefs, learning the French and Mediterranean classics. The Hofmann is the only restaurant in the world with a cooking school to be awarded a Michelin star. Gerard also worked at 3-star Michelin restaurant el Celler de Can Roca and one-star Michelin restaurant Restaurante Villa Retiro before moving to Melbourne in 2016.
With impressive training, extensive experience at multiple Michelin star establishments and numerous awards, Gerard remains incredibly modest and very humble.
“I am incredibly grateful for the experiences I have had that have led to such amazing, international recognition,” says Curto “but this has never been a distraction from what I love to do.
“I pride myself on being a meticulous chef with a big passion for gastronomy and constantly looking to broaden my skills with different types of cooking.” And today, Gerard is doing just that at Epocha – contemporary European cuisine with menu items that will make you feel transported to the heart of Europe.
Gerard is an organized and meticulous chef with a big passion for ‘gastronomy’ – the art of choosing, cooking and eating good food. His Mediterranean roots are never far from view. Constructing menus with seasonal produce, Gerard explores new culinary creations with a focus on quality and always bringing variety and a modern approach to his menus.

Angie has one of those faces you’re sure you’ve met before. Chances are if you love good food and wine and have a thing for exceptional service. You have.
Easily recognised from her years at the helm of The Press Club and days as part owner and conceptual designer of Hellenic Republic Brunswick, Angie’s experience and authentic love of hospitality has truly come to fruition in her ownership of new European favourites Epocha Carlton and Elyros in Camberwell.
Respected equally for her impressive knowledge of Greek and old world wines as for as her legendary hospitality, she was most recently recognised in the 2015 Age Good Food Guide where she took out the CITI Service Excellence Award.

Originally from England, Guy initially trained in the hotel and events sector in London before relocating to Australia to pursue his fine dining career.
After a period of time honing his skills at some of Melbourne’s finest (The Press Club, Rockpool and Greg Malouf’s MoMo) he and Angie started sketching their vision for Epocha together.
Guy is a highly accomplished and experienced general manager, he brings attention to detail, impeccable timing and passion to the restaurant, as well as an English accent to the offering thanks to his British heritage.
